A Peek Inside Our English Home

This home has been a labor of love! It will be a year of living here in a couple of weeks and I figured it was time to share some pictures! It is still not “done” but since Halloween decor is down and Christmas will be going up soon, now is probably the only opportunity I have to take some photographs of it in a “normal” state until the beginning of the year… so here you go!

I haven’t shared pictures prior because it has literally been a work in progress! We pursued this home for a year, walking away from it three different times. I loved the “bones” and style of the home but it had countless issues. It was a foreclosure that was left in shambles. On closing day when we left with the keys I still don’t think it hit me!

We had a month of construction putting it back together before we could even move in. For us though it has been fabulous! We loved the style, but we have been able to add our touch to it over the last year! Since this time last year we have been working on this home non stop from one project to the next. We are still not done, and there are still so many bare walls, missing touches, and little things that I still need to do… but for now I am letting it go and realizing that over time it will happen!

More than anything this home has brought me back closer to my family and friends, and has allowed us to meet so many amazing people in the community and that I am so thankful for!

So without further ado, welcome to our home! Come on in!

I designed this door and JD Glassworks made it come to life! I wanted a english cottage look with a functional speakeasy.

One day while I was at Scotts antique market, I came across these amazing gates from an old garden in Europe (or so they told me) and I loved the look and they happen to fit the opening of the entrance. That was a good day!

Found these urn pedestals from another local antique store, Red Baron Antiques. Once I saw them I knew I just had to have them!

The front patio needed a small table. I searched and searched for the perfect table and came across this one. It was old and was from the owner of Great American Cookie Companies personal estate. But it had a price tag of 1500 bucks! If it didn’t sell beforehand it was going to go to an auction. So what did I do? I registered for the auction and got me a bidding number. I had no idea how to bid ….and I think by the end of it I was bidding against myself but I got it for 400 bucks!

When you walk in the home the dining room is to the left. This is the dining room set from our previous home. Eventually I want to do an 8 seater table and a new “old” rug …. one day… šŸ™‚

Another neat find was this old coat rack that I found just a couple of weeks ago at Woodstock Antique Market! Can you tell what I love to go is shop at local antique stores to find different pieces?

Found the Chandelier from Restoration Hardware.

When you walk in the front door to the right this is what we currently have. It started off being my office but we ended up moving my office above the garage. For now this is a playroom/guest bedroom with a couch that folds out into a bed. This will eventually morph into a more formal space or bedroom but for now it is perfect for the kids!

The horns I just love and Jeremy cherishes them. These are his Grandpa’s. His Grandpa (Grady) had one of his World War II buddies give him these. In my opinion this right here is was makes a house a home; having pieces of our history and family throughout.

Downstairs bathroom. You will notice we used a lot of Restoration Hardware items like this vanity.

The paintings are from a local artist Deborah Pellock and I just love them! They are paintings of California and since my Mom and her family is from California I wanted to pull some of that into our home.

My favorite thing about the home is all the little details…. the archways, brick, stone ,beams, and hardwood floors.

This piece I only found about a month ago. I wanted something here that was not deep since it was in the hallway and I was originally thinking a table to about waste high and then a collage of pictures above. I found this old arched piece about a month ago at Woodstock Antique market and I went home at first without it. I could not sleep that whole night worrying that someone bought it! The next day it was still there and found it’s way into our home. It’s one of those pieces that just belong there.

Again a work in progress. Everything in the living room is from our first home minus the oil painting on the right and the wood cabinet next to the TV. The wood cabinet we had built for the space and it houses all our surround sound, home audio equipment. A perfect way to keep it organized and put away.

I love this chair… BUT every time I sit in it I wish it reclined. I have a feeling that eventually this will end up somewhere else in the home. šŸ™‚

Everything from closets, to bathrooms, to bathtub, to EVERY single light fixture we had to replace.

A lot of the design direction, wall colors, and little things here and there was done by a friend Danielle and her Mom. Rhonda White of RW Design and Exchange. Doesn’t matter how creative you are it helps to bounce ideas off someone else!

My favorite thing in the home hands down…. the kitchen.

The home has a downstairs as well but we have not even gone there yet! We eventually have plans to finish it but right now I need a design or rather project hiatus. šŸ™‚

Upstairs we go!

When you walk up our bedroom is to the left. It still needs SO much. The center of the room needs some chairs or something as well as the wall on the left needs a piece of furniture as well. Work in progress people! šŸ™‚

Here is our master bath… with a washrag on the shower courtesy of my husband because I just now realized it! whoops! šŸ™‚

Again the bathroom still needs some finishing touches. Some art on the walls but we will eventually get there!

I saw this tub and just HAD to have it… But you know what I have lived here almost a year and have yet to take a bath in it! SHHH just don’t tell the hubby though! šŸ™‚

Roman’s football room!

Roman’s bathroom.

August’s airplane room!

Need an old map for above his toilet! If you know where to get one let me know!

Our most recent project the backyard! When I say this yard was bare a year ago I mean bare! Nothing but dead grass and overgrown trees! My Dad’s company, Mark Gayton Stone, (yes a family plug šŸ™‚ did all the stonework in our backyard from the fireplace to the stone patio and built in grill. We have been in the backyard almost every night watching TV, wrestling with boys, or just hanging out! It is truly an extension of our home.

And yes it is astroturf and not real grass šŸ™‚ Yes we cheated.

We couldn’t decide to go with an outdoor TV or some sort of shield for a “normal” TV. We ended up going with a TV shield and a standard 46 inch flat screen. Supposedly this will allow the TV to stay outside all the time in all elements. Will have to let you know if that is true!

This patio seating area and built in smoker is all something that we did at the beginning of the summer.

We got these gates made to replicate the gates on the front of the home.

And here is the view from the back of our home! I can assure you my home never looks this picked up. With the boys it is almost impossible to keep the home picked up. But that is what a home is for… to live, love, and to make memories! To keep up with new projects or finds be sure to follow me on Facebook HERE!

Will share pictures of my completed office in a couple weeks…. it is ALMOST done just wanting on some custom cabinets!
