Favorite Product: Metal Prints

If you missed the print inspiration guide you can Click Here to see some of my favorite products that I love to print on. If you are a photographer and you are struggling to sell products…. it is imperative to show clients products and provide them with the opportunities to print. In our digital world so many images are being taken, but not a lot is being printed. It is our job, as the photographer, to pick images that showcase the shoot well, and show the clients ways to turn their images into artwork that is printed on professional archival paper. In other words, products that will stand the test of time.

I believe every shoot should end with the clients having printed products displayed in their home or personal spaces. First off, I do not consider myself a “seller”. I never have been and never will be. My “selling approach” is different than most. I use my home and office to showcase different products (see office setup here). I am not actually “selling” them on a product, but rather on an experience of helping them turn their images into artwork for their home. I am giving them design advice as well as hand touching up images to turn them into artwork. You have to DISPLAY and SHOW products in order to sell them. I am a visual person. Typically, clients are as well. And yes, if they purchase the personal printing rights, I also giving them resources to print on their own. My only end goal for my clients is to print… either with me directly or resources that I give them.

One of my FAVORITE products to print on is the Metals from Black River Imaging! ****** Use code KDP5 for 20% off one order if you want to try a metal print out! Metals provide a really nice pop to images and they are a statement piece. They are also more expensive to produce, so a lot times clients do not feel comfortable ordering on their own because typically they are going bigger with the image and they want the photographers help. I LOVE mixing and matching different textures and finishes. If images are printed just on metals and mounted alone(like the standout), they can have more of a contemporary/modern look, but if you mix in metals with wood frames or other artwork it can really go with any décor. Providing your clients with a more personal experience and showing them different ways to display their images are ways to get those images off the hard drive and onto the walls of your clients!

Here is an example of a standout metal from Black River Imaging from Samantha and Zach’s wedding here .

Design Tip: Images that show landscape but creatively have your clients posed in the shot make amazing metal prints. It then becomes personal artwork for the wall…. and there is nothing better than that!

Here is how I used a metal print in our home in our little guys nursery HERE.

Far left.

I found this rustic wood frame at a local antique store that someone had made. You can also find them all day long on Etsy HERE by searching wood planked picture frames. This particular frame I did not make but is something that you could easily be done! Sometimes I find things and make them myself, and sometimes they are already put together and perfect so I chose to just buy. It came with a plastic cover to place a print behind the plastic. I am not a fan of plastic as it would distort the look of the image and make it look cheap so I just took that off and threw it away. Instead I printed this image below on a 16×24 metal and fastened it to the wood using 4 black metal pieces and 4 screws.

The overall dimension of the frame is 32″ by 32″.

Metals make the image, colors, and subject really pop!

Plus as you see below mixing the metal with the wood is AMAZING! You can see if you are doing this yourself the metal brackets are just 4 flat metal pieces with a hole drilled in the center to allow a screw to go through 🙂 I hope this inspires you to print some of your images on Metal!
