Photography to me is a creative outlet, and I don’t see it as a “job” at all! All of our lives are fast paced and filled with routines and schedules. Sometimes I find myself going through the motions, but forgetting to enjoy the moments. Amidst our busy lives, photography reminds me to slow down, enjoy the details, and every passing moment despite its craziness.
I really can’t describe it, but photography has allowed me to see the world differently. I now notice colors, textures, light, emotions, and gestures in a way that I never did before I had a camera in my hand. Not to sound all sappy, but this device that is called a camera has given me way more than I could ever give my clients and I am so thankful for that. My style, personality, and interactions with my couples allows us to create images. For a photographer what is unique is the photographer. I am not perfect, not even close to the best, but for this brief moment in a world of comparison I am thankful to just be me.
Of course with every post has to be a little sneak peek. I just couldn’t even stand it and had to share this image last night on Facebook. This is probably one of my favorite images to date.
Engagement sessions for me start with trying to get to know my clients, and finding a location that suits their personalities. Then I always arrive to a location way early. This is my time to get to know the area, lighting, and visualize different areas to use. Of course things change during the session, but I like having it mapped out in my mind prior. Meeting early with the couple, we typically go through clothes and I help throw together outfits, accessories, and ideas. This is something that I enjoy and is a huge part of the final images. At this point I know the locations and I can help with colors and styling. For a gal that loves clothes this is right up my alley!
This lighting, detail, colors, outfits, and amazing couple all come together to make this one image.

Because I just feel like one more sneak peek is in order! Before my camera, I would have just seen a couple kissing. Now I see her soft smile, his embracing arm on hers, their fingers wrapped in each others, soft lighting…. I see happiness and beauty. More images coming up from Zack and Kayla’s engagement session very soon!
xoxo
