5 Ways to Get Healthy and Become More Productive

How YOU feel determines how much energy you exert. If you are not feeling well you will do the bare minimum to get by. If you are feeling optimal, you will be able to function at your peak, which is when you will have the strength to make changes in your life and chase those dreams of yours! In my opinion, health is a huge component to being productive. Health is not just physical but mental. I am currently healthy and I love it because I have energy to pour into my family(which is most important) and passions or dreams I want to chase!
Here are 5 things I have done that have helped me get healthy so that I can be productive both in and out of the office:
1.Sleep. Yes, I said sleep. That doesn’t sound productive though, right? One thing I have learned is that in order for me to stay healthy, not get sick, and feel good I need my 8 hours of sleep.

2. Sugar. Yes, it is true I limit my sugar to around 8 grams a day, both natural and artificial. I used to read labels when I first started watching my sugar intake, but I rarely ever do anymore because over time I learned how much sugar is in the food I eat on a regular basis. I know what foods will give me temporary highs followed by a crash, and I also know what foods will keep me running at an even pace, which is usually pretty fast; ). Eliminating sugar has been a game changer in my life. Yes, yes I know it taste good but it has zero benefits for your body. Sugar is bad.

3. Green smoothie. I start my day with a green smoothie. On Sunday I prep enough green smoothies for the week and stick them in the freezer. I rotate what I use but I primarily follow Kimberly Snyder’s Glowing Green Smoothie recipe (apple, spinach, romaine, lemon, and filtered water). It helps me to get the greens needed and feel amazing throughout the day.

This is my GGS and here is the water I drink that I will talk about next!

4. Water. I have been obsessed with PH water. Last year we had a water filtration system installed throughout our entire house. It was not cheap but I felt like it was important in order to ensure we are drinking and bathing in clean water. You would not believe what our filter looks like when we change it. I also had our water tested for PH and it was at about 7.2, which is decent and a whole lot better than what it used to be. In December of this last year I couldn’t shake being sick and I got to the point where I could not even swallow. I had an endoscopy done and it came back that I had LPR, which is silent acid reflux in a nut shell. The gastro doctor gave me acid reflux meds and sent me on my way. I started taking the meds and felt horrible, which is when I started researching. It turns out that WATER with high PH and staying hydrated was my answer to curing all this. I now drink Essentia water and water from our house, and guess what? I weaned myself off the darn medication and have felt great ever since. (Yes, I also am still having my one cup of coffee a day which who knows in the future I might have to eliminate but for now its working.

Yes talking selfie in the outpatient center. 😉

5. Food. This might go without saying, but I am going to say it. I don’t eat fried foods, I eat carbs in moderation, limit processed sugar, and really focus on eating REAL food. Almost nothing from a box. It takes time because you have to make time to grocery shop, meal prep, and cook, but it is so worth it to feel better and know you aren’t filling your body with artificial ingredients and chemicals! Speaking of chemicals…. something I have not always been cautious is exposure to metals and toxins. I know this is like a 6th tip but metals, chemicals, and toxins break down our immune systems and clog up our organs. Try eliminating as much as possible. We live in a nasty world and there is no way to shield us from it all but some thoughts are… cookware make sure it is safe and not the non-stick teflon, metal fillings in mouth leaking mercury yes yes seriously not crazy), cleaning products, and of course medicines that we take or that alter our normal bodily functions. If you haven’t read my thoughts on birth control, you can read it here.

Moderation is also the key. I’ll admit, on occasion I go to a Mexican restaurant, eat all the chips, and drink a few too many margaritas, but I do it in moderation. Yes, I go buy a pint of ice cream and intend on only eating one serving and end up eating the whole thing. I slip and I don’t let my diet control my life, but I do make a conscious effort to make healthy choices. Not because I want to be “skinny”. Not because I want to “look good”. Because it is what makes me feel amazing and gives me the energy to be more productive. Our health is really the most valuable asset of all; we cannot be the best friend, mom, spouse, daughter, etc. or chase our dreams if we don’t feel good.
Chase those dreams friends!
